Born and raised in the Hudson Valley region of New York, Jennifer Urmston grew up spending much of her childhood outside enjoying nature. Her love of the ocean stems from family trips to Bar Harbor, Maine, where she spent most of her time exploring tide pools. She attended Monmouth University to study Marine and Environmental Biology and Policy, earning a Bachelor of Science in 2017. She first became interested in marine birds while working as an intern for New Jersey Fish and Wildlife, where she monitored beaches to protect endangered beach-nesting birds. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in the Marine Science program at Hawaii Pacific University where she studies the impact of light pollution on Hawaiian seabirds.  She plans to continue her path in seabird conservation to ensure a promising future for marine birds threatened by urbanization. In her free time, Jenn enjoys hiking, surfing, yoga, and baking.
